  Dr Leland Kaiser
"The time is ripe for a new incarnation of Florence Nightingale’s spirit and energy. She was present in her time. We must make her present in our time. We do this by volunteering to incarnate her energy and wisdom through our own lives and the profession of nursing."

He is a provocateur and mentor to many hospitals and healthcare organizations in the US and known for his ability to change the way organizations think. In his endorsement of the Nightingale Declaration,  Dr. Kaiser states:

“I am pleased to endorse the Nightingale Declaration Campaign. Florence was a mystic in the best sense of the term.  She lived in two worlds and she used her inspiration in the inner world to improve material conditions in the outer world.  I think her dual citizenship explained her motivation, her dedication and her effectiveness as a nurse.  She was a true world worker.

The study of her life may hold the secret to breakthroughs in nursing today.  She felt a “calling.”  She knew that nursing was a sacred profession.  This gave her the strength to push on, to face hardships, to take immense personal risks and to suffer from resulting health problems.  She sacrificed her own comfort and an assured easy life to accomplish a healing work that needed to be done.  She was a pathfinder and a waymaker at a time in history when women were not viewed as leaders and public figures. Florence had immense personal charisma.  She was magnetic in the best sense of the term and attracted many allies and associates that contributed to the success of her work.  She was a spiritual warrior but her main weapon was love and it proved to be irresistible.

The time is ripe for a new incarnation of Florence Nightingale’s spirit and energy.  She was present in her time.  We must make her present in our time.  We do this by volunteering to incarnate her energy and wisdom through our own lives and the profession of nursing.

Nothing is ever lost in our universe.  It is always waiting to be reclaimed.  We should think of Florence as a figure of the future as much as a figure of the past.  Her life gains immortality through our lives.  It is the same work.  It simply occurs in different time periods.  Now is time for the reappearance of Florence Nightingale!”
