Asoka Roy: a pioneer nurse-midwife
|
Can one person can try to make a difference, both locally and globally? Florence Nightingale demonstrated caring, courage and commitment to the sick and wounded of her time. She actively shared her concerns for health, communicating, networking, and, indeed, building teams with others across the world. She shifted public opinion, influencing local and global leaders, political and military, philanthropists, social scientists, educators and journalists -- as well as nurses -- across the world. In her time, she was a pro-active, vocal conscience for the health of humanity.
There are many nurses throughout the world today, who follow in her footsteps and making an impact. The Nightingale Initiative for Global Health presents examples of nurses, who are following the footsteps of Florence Nightingale and are making a difference in society.
This section is dedicated to Asoka Roy , a pioneer nurse-midwife who established this field as a profession in the United States.
We are keen to develop this section and present examples from all across the world. If you know of a 21st century Nightingale, please
